New Composition on the Way: Cello Concerto

The piece that will premiere at Sala São Paulo on April 12, 2025 (Selva de Pedra – Overture for Symphonic Band) is now complete, and it’s time to begin a new project, which also has a set premiere date.

The new work is a Cello Concerto, written for the great Brazilian cellist Antônio Lauro Del Claro. The concerto follows the traditional form (fast, slow, fast), and its premiere is scheduled for June 5, 2025, at Teatro da Paz in Belém do Pará.

To “reset” my mind before starting the composition, I visited the Carlos Gomes Museum, which is managed by the CCLA (Center for Sciences, Letters, and Arts) here in Campinas, where I live. It’s interesting to note that the composer Carlos Gomes had an important connection to Belém, having participated in the creation of the Conservatory of Music, which later became the Instituto Carlos Gomes. Thus, my visit was not only an emotional experience—being able to see the maestro’s collection, still in manuscript form—but also held a subtle connection to the piece I am composing and its place of premiere.
